Jonah and I took a day trip up here in early February (we almost let a winter blizzard stop us, but we prevailed) and it was the perfect little winter mountain getaway. The fresh coat of snow made it so magical. I felt like we were in a snow globe!
How to get there:
Gold Fork Hot Springs is just south of McCall, ID. If you are coming from Boise, it's about 2 hours North on ID-55. The drive is absolutely beautiful, especially the part along the Payette River! The road off the highway is a dirt road, but it is well-maintained and our Toyota Camry didn't have any problems getting there. Once you park, it's a very short walk to the office building where you pay and check in.
Address: 1026 Gold Fork Road
Donnelly, ID
There are six tiered pools -- the hottest (about 110 degrees) is at the top and each pool gets a little bit cooler in temperature as you go down.
What to pack:
water bottle: to hydrate while you soak (important!)
slip-on shoes or sandals: we both wore our chacos because they are waterproof and easy to slip on and off. The top pool has a sandy bottom and the others were tiled so we didn't feel like it was necessary to wear them while we soaked.
towel: we love our lightweight norwex towels!
clothes: the cute white yurt is where you can change in and out of your suit! During the winter months, they have a fire going in there to keep it nice and toasty (very appreciated).
snacks: outside food is allowed so feel free to bring in some snacks to enjoy poolside!
Things to know:
Cash only. There is a cost to admission (check the updated prices on their website: www.goldforkhotsprings.com)
Gold Fork Hot Springs is closed on Tuesdays
No alcohol
We were there on a snowy Sunday in February and were pleasantly surprised that there weren't too many people (about 10) soaking with us. During the week would probably be even better! I bet this place would be awesome in late Summer and Fall as well, but we LOVED the snowy magic!
Happy adventuring!
